"Take One" 2002
Now out of print, this short 5-track instrumental CD was the first packaged album available for purchase. Each song was recorded in one take, and this being my first album, I decided to name it "Take One." Recorded using a medium-size Steinway grand, this album holds the distinction as the only album whose master tracks were transported via bicycle from recording back to home. The first batch of CDs came with extra silence at the end of each track due to problems in the duplication method, but people were kind enough not to point this shortcoming out. The CD is currently only available in MP3 format through this site.
"Two Breaks" 2005
Another piano instrumental album, "Two Breaks" derived its name from being recorded over my reprieves from school, where I was studying towards my music degree at the time. This album is the first full-length album recorded and produced at home. It features artwork by Ian Hubert, and was mastered in Kansas at Ron Tozier's studio. The album is currently available via CD Baby, iTunes, and through various online vendors.
Perder Pie "15 Cents a Bullet" 2006
Gathering steam as a piano-based rock trio, Perder Pie's debut album was born out of heartbreak-laced songs and Ben Folds Five influences, and was recorded over a weekend while the band was still in college. With Jonathan Root on bass, and Daniel Glascock on drums, Joshua Piper turned his composing skills from piano instrumental pieces to pop writing, singing, and jazz solos with a distinctive rock flavor. The album features original artwork by Mambu Bayou, and was recorded using cheap mics, and other cheap gear in Adobe Audition. 15 Cents a Bullet is still in print, available from CD Baby, iTunes, and many online vendors.
Perder Pie "Illiterate" 2007
A first studio album (all albums prior had been self-recorded), "Illiterate" came on the heels of a summer of basement practice, with the group now whittled down to just two members: Joshua Piper and Daniel Glascock. "Illiterate" incorporates more of Daniel's songwriting, and both Joshua and Daniel share drum duties on this album. The album was recorded using analogue tape, and has a very unique sound. Available through CD Baby, iTunes, etc.
Perder Pie "Last Leaf" 2008
The final album from the rock-trio, "Last Leaf" was helped greatly by the addition of a new member, Nate Yoder, to the group. Incorporating more harmonic experimentation, this album has a distinct flavor that sets it apart from the other two albums, yet never leaves the Perder Pie piano-rooted rock sound that the group started out with. "Last Leaf" can be found through CD Baby, iTunes, and other online vendors.
"Hymns" 2008
This album is for people who can close their eyes and feel the ground and sky separate when notes reach their ears. Each song arrangement is intended to capture the beauty of each melody without exploitation of the listener. My intention was to create an album that carries an intelligent rhythmic feel, yet is calming like a cup of warm tea. Available at CD Baby.
